Imperial College Festive Talk: A Memorable Learning Experience for Our Biology Students

Just before the festive break, our Biology students had the exciting opportunity to visit Imperial College London for a special Festive Talk, an inspiring extension to their classroom learning. The session proved to be one of the highlights of the term, offering students a rare chance to hear directly from one of the world鈥檚 leading scientists in immunology.

The lecture was delivered by Professor Daniel M. Davis, Head of the Department of Life Sciences and Professor of Immunology at Imperial College London. Professor Davis is a distinguished researcher and the author of four popular science books published by Penguin Random House. His latest book, Self Defence: A Myth-Busting Guide to Immune Health (published June 2025), explores common misconceptions about the immune system and offers science-backed advice for healthier living.

Throughout the talk, Professor Davis unpacked widely held myths surrounding immunity and 鈥渉ealthy living,鈥 helping students develop a clearer, more evidence-based understanding of how the immune system truly works. He also shared invaluable guidance on lifestyle choices that genuinely contribute to long-term health, encouraging students to think critically about the information they encounter online and in the media.

Our students found the session incredibly engaging and insightful. Many commented on how much they enjoyed hearing from a leading expert and how the lecture deepened their curiosity about biology and human health. The experience not only enriched their understanding of course content but also provided an inspiring glimpse into the world of scientific research. We look forward to offering more opportunities like this to extend and enrich our students鈥 learning beyond the classroom.
